Full-time Java Team Lead (that wants to learn how to develop in Flex and run projects)

at Integral People Solutions (IPS) in Chicago, IL

As Recruiters, we dream of having clients that are willing to "teach the right person", that are open to "strengths-based" hiring rather than focusing on what someone doesn't have. This is one of those organizations! Our client doesn't merely work with Flex, they take it apart and put it back together again so that it bends to their will. After you have undergone their training, you too will be able to say the same thing! It's not as if they will hire you, then send you off for training...they are the organization that individuals and companies turn to as the "experts expert". They are looking to add a Full Time member to their team in Chicago. All they require is someone with an extensive Java background that has led development projects. How you approach coding and communicate your ideas is as important as any other requirement they might have.

What's Required:

Object-Oriented Enterprise Application Development
Java Development
Hands-on Project and/or Team Lead experience

Nice-to-Haves:

Rich Internet Application (RIA) experience
Adobe Flex, CS3/4

Long-term they're interested in people that can lead internal teams as well as client teams, someone who can ascend to one of the mentorship roles they serve for their clients. This is absolutely a requirement. Here is what their Senior Leadership had to say about this opening: "We want someone who has a long Java history but intend to teach them Flex and have them run Flex projects, so it has to be someone willing to make that jump. They may occasionally interface Flex clients with Java backends, but they’ll almost never be working with Java directly. We’re looking for an internal resource on our Flex team, someone who can help run our development teams but not necessarily be a client-facing resource."

You must be able to walk the fine line between being too quick or too late to consult with your colleagues when faced with a new problem. Too quick would mean you're asking for help on even basic concerns instead of just getting things done, too late means you’ve spent hours or days fighting a problem that would take someone who knows how to solve it minutes to fix and explain. It’s a difficult balance to strike, but something they find important.

You'll also expected to form your own opinions about how to best architect a solution in code and argue for them effectively. Their senior consultants and team leads are opinionated but not close-minded, so the best argument usually wins the day. However, if the team lead says “I hear you, but do it my way,” you’ve got to be able to put your concerns aside and maintain a "team first" mentality.

Your professionalism has to be on par with your technical proficiency. This is NOT a typical job description, but its far from a typical opportunity. If you are interested and would like to learn more, please visit us at www.ips-beintegral.com. Our email address is info@ips-beintegral.com.

No sponsorship or relocation to Chicago is available for this position.
